3-Day Gear Shifting Diet
EPL-
INFORMATION FOR YOUR BUILDING SOUL
The 3-Day Gear Shifting Diet
Although I am in no way affiliated with late Billy J Sahley or her work I followed it religiously for years. I hoped to have met her and was very sorry for her passing. I mention her and her revolutionary work in the true field of Orthomolecular Nutrition in Heal with Amino Acids and Nutrients.
In this book we find many truths that may or may not be debated today. Regardless there will always be those who stand in opposition to any great endeavor. Sadly PTSD is more rampant today than ever. I failed on persuading the people closest to me towards this healing process. It sent me into a deep depression where I didn’t want to be strong, happy, vibrant and healthy without them too experiencing this profound tool!
I am not a dietician or medical professional. Any information. You read here should be taken as a pure expression of anecdotal sharing of personal application and experience. I am a poor and humble man in my mid-50’s and ask that you purchase this self published work as a gesture of hope as well as gratitude. My hope is that you will do your own research and develop from these tools and other valuable resources a method that works best for you too. Now on with the show. This publication is for entertainment purposes only.
Chapter 1
I woke up there in that lonely little parking lot again. I can’t say I slept too long or very well at that. I was fully dressed and ready for work today. I would go into that gym for another 17 hours of training sessions and live on nothing but protein shakes, water and supplements.
I’d recently been turned on to a thing called YouTube that my kids were into. I began recording and posting videos that became an instant hit with certain crowds. I would record not only my training results but my day to day life. Who would have anticipated it blowing into what became only a decade or so later? It was 2007 and I was just informed that I was in the running for the top Personal Trainer Award in my company. Further that only a couple of years earlier I was sent through a brutal divorce that left me penniless and on the fringe of homelessness.
I vowed to change my stars and bargain to scour through and memorize every book on Personal Training I could get my hands on. I scrounged up just enough money to purchase that next Personal Training Certification. I had quite a collection of them by that time. Between 2004 and 2007 I had acquired over 20 Certifications many from the top certifying bodies.
Luckily I got an interview with the gentleman who would for just shy of two years work as my Personal Training or ‘PT’ Manager. Over the course of a month or more I would complete three more interviews. On the third interview I was unable to afford rent, gas or food and the Health Club was some 95 miles north of where I was living at the time.
I called him and let him know [no names or alias used] that I couldn’t make it. He said I was already hired and that I was going to be a “superstar”. He asked me what I needed? I told him my situation and the stand up guy he was gave me a loan of $1,500. The one stipulation was that I stuck around and paid him back as he was certain I would be able to in no time.
That gestures changed my life. That single gracious effort from him is how this story came to be and how I am able to convey this to you now.
Don’t get me wrong there were many ups and downs. I remember having to try and siphon gas out of an old broken down truck that was also parked in the lot just outside the club. I remember he so broke waiting for that first check that I dug up under my vehicles floor boards enough change in order to purchase to Tacos at from Jack in the box down the street. I walked that street many times. I rode a bike to work when I sold my car to come up with enough funds for survival costs. The checks came in slow as I worked as a gym ‘Floor Trainer’. Soon the clients stacked up quickly as I became leaner and fitter with my free membership to the club. I finished developing this program around this time.
Chapter 2
It Begins
Soon I was getting more money on paychecks and so more certifications. I was able to add to my accomplishments a certification in Pilates, Kettlebells and Suspension Training. I was exposed to some very knowledgeable and well educated individuals and strive to make my contributions with sweat equity and grit.
It was never enough. The leaner I got, the stronger I became but soon people responded and began to recognize me and call out my name at the grocery store. I realized I represented something greater. That I couldn’t just grab any old thing off the shelf any more. It was always a loose option to stick on this thing. Now it was a commitment to represent something greater. To motivate and inspire.
So I was earning close to six figures and eating lunch at Google on occasion. I frequented the vitamin store near by and spent a great deal of money on pre made protein shakes. By that time my YouTube station had gained several hundred followers and my star ratings on each video were nearly always the highest rating. It kept me accountable but no payoff was in sight back then people didn’t post as an industry career move but as an expression to community.
I remember I guy I knew come in with a huge smile on his face waving around the first IPhone saying “Steve Jobs just handed this to me!” I had no idea who that was.
I got an apartment near by. It was the first time I had a credit score in the 700’s. I couldn’t miss work so I got financed for a near new Mercedes Benz online and had it driven out to me. I signed the contract at my apartment complex and parked that baby in my garage. The checks got bigger and the money was rolling in. Although it ended up creating more issues. Monetary success can be like a time bomb I learned.
That “three day cycle” I’d been developing over the spans of the past few years was a crutch to me. It was suggested I read a book by an obscure writer at that time under the pen name of Samuel Fussel particularly his booked titled “The Unlikely Bodybuilder” (the title has since been updated to a longer on). I was studying for a Sports Nutrition Certification at the same time as reading that book. The name was changed and became a top seller but the original book was written and articulated so well the demand came greater over time.
I remember Samuel referencing his cutting diet and I was already doing something quite similar only using protein powder. I remember thinking “why didn’t he use protein powder?”. Later I’d learn that it was so he could appear dry. I also recall realizing “how dry does your average every day person have to be?”.
Other books that I was reading at the time were Elson Haas’ Staying Healthy With The Seasons. In this book I realized that our bodies seem to work on a clock. There are times when a rapid uptake of nutrients create a window of opportunity for autophagy and healthy cellular growth.
However the most influential book I have ever read in that bridges liminal aspects of temporal health and homeostasis is Heal with Amino Acids and nutrients. As said you may need to do a deep dive and amend certain behavior in your nutritional scope to more accurately address specific issue however the meat is there in this publication.
Health and healing, that’s what it’s all about!
Chapter 3
I remember the first time I fasted on protein. It was a cheap bulk supplement but I was young enough and trained long and intensely enough to see results manifest in days. I was hooked. This is around 2003. In the early days I got used to sticking with protein all day. I’d shoot for 24 hours and then see how I felt. If I made it past 5pm then I was golden. Unfortunately for me then I drank alcohol on the weekend fairly regularly. I would drink low carb beers and no carb lemonade. I’d learn later that alcohol mobilizes fat so I’d end up going into the gym and training for hours drinking from a water bottle. What a recipe for disaster that was. The only problem is that it worked well. The alcohol leaned me up and dried me out and gave a certain sharpness and pump. I found out later and not soon enough that this method was a quick track to not only kidney failure but created an almost instant reliance on the first available fuel source…alcohol!
I experimented quite a bit trying to come up with an easy way to lose the fat, maintain muscle and promote energy and vitality. The problem was not one method worked. Then I began to realize that like most things there was a little truth in every stable system. I began to experiment eating vegetarian for a month, doing Ketosis for another month. Nothing gave me the results like Liquid Protein Fasting.
Over time protein fasting did do the job. The problem was that I ate fast food and pizza on my load days. I’d measure my waist and since I had been a Personal Trainer for years I always measured my Body Fat with Calipers regardless. I would chart my progress and see the best results by focusing specifically on carbohydrate sources. Three to five days of fasting on liquid proteins seemed to work amazingly. The leaner I got the less fasting I would do. Eventually I had all sorts of clients asking me what I had done because my waist was so small but I had retained so much muscle mass.
Well that’s why your here right? I got the system down so we’ll I could get as lean as I wanted to. I also would gain in health because I realized that I was able to more rapidly store vital nutrients in the cell when coming off a total depletion based fast.
Chapter 4
Enter the clay pot
I’m not sure how I came across the thing? That clay pot was a miracle worker. I didn’t have any patience for cooking. I remember the using the method of taking .45 X my body weight in pounds (REE) then adding into my REE or resting energy expenditure 20-50% for activity level or calories out. So I would begin with either a layer of brown rice or white rice. Then I would place into the pot everything I required in order to provide total nutrition for a healthy cell. I was able to quarter cut all sorts of vegetables like Cabbage and Cauliflower that I could never stomach and they would turn out steamy and succulent. I’d put that oven on between 350-400f after wetting the clay pot and keep it in anywhere from 35-45 minutes and when I opened up that lid upon cooling there was Heaven.
I started to add things into the mix. I threw in chopped apples, curry, figs and all sorts of spices. Each time I would research and find benefits to certain spices and foods I’d want to see how it would integrate into the current loading mix. Remember I was famished! I was satiated! When I needed more power I would add lentils or beans. If something felt off I would throw in 10-15 drops of trace minerals. There is as absolutely nothing that I placed into the mix of that pot that didn’t work well.
I would prepare a mix of the best nutrient mix for clients. I began to see miracles occur on their lives as well.
Chapter 5
Beauty isn’t everything
When you have no foundation or structure a house falls into itself. That what I did. I watched other go through similar things. All is done. All I’d sacrificed and in the end I could really help no one, not even myself.
There is a spiritual aspect to all we do. The rituals we go about doing every single day make us who and what we are. Some things are too perfect for a fallen world. Some rituals make us too transparent and leave no buffer between ourselves and the forces that we are unaware of that are watching us at all times.
Might I say I was open and transparent. Upon realizing that I was practicing principles that I did not posses I digressed.
I walked away from success and all the people and experiences that were to come. Nothing had any meaning. I had to find meaning no matter what the cost might be. What a dark lonely decade that turned out to be. Even though it was my passion, my life’s work, huh and inspiration absent understanding the profound intrinsic aspects to these existential ritualistic habits in diet and exercise there was no where for all the energy I was producing to go.
It goes here now.
I wasn’t going to allow anything to be published until I was actively involved and committed of that time would ever come again. I was resigned to know that with all that personal power beyond money health vitality ….a system of continuance that truly worked! That I would not practice these mantras and Kata in action until I was full from the inside out. Not until the outside too could feedback a yin and yang vibratory expansion of being and becoming.
Chapter 6
Day 1
We begin with Day 1. This is what I refer to as The Loading Phase. Never begin empty. Carbohydrates are as misunderstood as they are as dangerous as any ergogenic drug. Take them regularly and you can maintain a full filled tranquility of stasis and harmony few ever are able to experience in a lifetime. Most issues that people have stem from poor dietary ritualistic habits. When you conquer this then you realize the demand to lay down in timing all of your principle based actualizations; work.
Tame your body as if you are taking a beast. You are not listening to it you are teaching the monster what it must ardently follow in principle based code.
With that said we feed it Health. If you haven’t got any more money rice and minerals. Eat your REE plus Energy Out or just simply double REE. If you have a little more money the Lentils as well to meet this quotient.
If we have the means let’s work with a base. Layer in at least 5 different types of vegetables that have the highest profiles for to meet you immediate concerns. You have no excuse. Doing your own research shows a commitment.
Get a new journal to document and write down all the vegetables and fruits along with their individual benefits.
I would recommend getting a daily exercise journal as well. If you are doing this I would also begin to write down what your core principles are and how you have practiced them in all that you did today. Three journals. If you are successful you will more than likely have at least 8 in total that you use regularly.
Documentation of the good things, the finer aspects of what we display and who we truly are. Not to the world but to our selves. This isn’t just a physical outcome. You are growing a Soul!
If you struggle coming up with a base vegetable mix I suggest these basics. Trust me that when you put some Liquid Amino Soy Sauce and Medicinal Spices you will have a new respect for vegetables that you once hated.
Oh and you’ll fart. Healthy people urinate, have bowel movements, sweat, burb and fart.
Other impulses like sex drive become dangerous to the treacherous soul. You must learn to center yourself and safeguard your chastity. You are not who you think you are. Not yet.
-Broccoli
-Cabbage
-Brussels Sprouts
-Radish
- Bok choy
-Cartots
-Potato
-Yams
-Apples
-Oranges
……Getting the picture. The list goes on. I suggest alternating them. Hit farmers markets. Put a thimbleful of red wine at times, apple cider vinegar, Black Strap Molasses.
Trace minerals make up for a lack in nutrient dense soil the vegetables are gone in.
Alternate and experiment with your main base of Carbohydrates. Remember this entire pot is for you. You are eating big. It may take you a few meals. We are still observing the 5pm rule. So this meal can be consumed before 9pm. Be sure that you add fresh clean water. With you rice and or lentil/bean base.
For desert you may want to cook some extra rice [still respecting your REE+ Energy Out 1-2X depending on activity the following day]. A scoop of protein powder in medium to short grain rice can be kept in the fridge. Great snack for this day. Also rice can be pressed into a sandwich maker to create bread on load day or really load night. Night shade foods should be avoided or eaten earlier. If you must adjust the time due to a job etc 3pm will suffice. Aside from that stick with primarily fasting on load day and protein powder is always ok. In my opinion protein powder (high quality isolate) is always on the menu. It’s a miracle food. We are made up of protein and water.
Chapter 7
Day 2
Hard Food Fast
I just had protein in completing that prior sentence. Isopure is the powder I use at the moment. One can get high brow with molecular weights but the point is you are working with the best that you can afford.
Protein powder is always ok. However on this day a high quality casein might be a better choice. Even better still is simply 99% Fat Free Turkey or Chicken. Down the road when energy demands are high as well as performance demands lean Pork Loin and even lean Steak as well as some exotic meats are perfectly fine as long as they are lean and carbohydrate free.
Water is always a topic just like protein. How much? I would stick with a general rule of 8-12oz of fresh clean water per hour however I tend to drink more while fasting. I will not make any recommendations because I there is no common suggestion. I tend that o require gallons of water per day especially while training however I would never suggest this to anyone. The more water you take in the more nutrient are being flushed away. This is what electrolytes are extremely important just as water and protein to KEEP ON HAND.
Protein suggestions obviously alter greatly with respect to hard protein sources. I still think 30 grams to 3 hours isn’t a bad suggestion. However if you are only eating once or twice that day (other than protein powder snacks) understand digestion will take some time. I would like honk more in terms of pounds than ounces. Perhaps for a smaller individual 1-2lbs of lean meat this day is perfect? While a larger person may opt for 3-4lbs of meat? Down the road slightly higher fats but still relatively lean cuts should be adhered to.
My thought on animals and slaughter are:
“The moment science comes up with a superior method as to produce high quality full spectrum protein sources meat is the unfortunate outcome for homeostatic balance and support. This is for optimal health”
Sorry pea protein your not there yet keep trying please!
Chapter 8
Day 3
We talk about these cycles as if they are indeed three days. However the 3-Day Cycle is the end all maintenance goal.
Fasting
I’ve been protein fasting for years. In fact when I made a deal with God not to exercise my vanity for nearly a decade (and I failed many times but got back onto the horse) I would protein fast for fun. Protein Powder fasting brings about a whole different aspect to performance and who you are as an individual. In the face of vanity it forces life lessons and growth. This is no small statement. Water and protein in my back pack along with a suspension trainer and exercise bands were all this vagabond trainer ever really required.
It seemed so irresponsible but those hundreds of videos which were up on YouTube getting tens of thousands of views (in the early days mind you) would have payed for rent and food on my table today. For that I am sure.
I erased those videos because the attention corrupted me. My waste had reach 25” at one point drawn in. My development was something I worked on each and every day. Yet it became more as an art that a principle practice. That is precisely why I quit training other people. Once I had figured out the solution and wasn’t selling packages and conning people but delivering results it was more to do with “why am I doing this?”.
I was never a “feel good trainer” or an “ego trainer”. What I was working on then and have perfected now to a skill is not an art is a building up of The Body Spirit Soul!
So do this in transparency. Do this when you are ready to face demons and angels and realize that it’s all within you. Don’t take any action lightly. Be ready once you are truly empty to fill yourself up with the Pure Truth…and I’ll be waiting.
I’m not a ‘Holy Roller’ or a theologian. I am a Truth Seeker and a master mind (INTJ) “System Problem Fixer”.
There should be no ego involved. An emptiness and darkness will occur so I should warn you. Phantoms May jump out at you in the dark of night. There is an unseen force that’s been there with you always all your life. It is testing you for master control. Because you have never truly been your own master until now.
Keep the protein shakes coming. I used to pre-make several scoops at once and take chugs throughout the day. Now is tend to stick with a 2.5-3hr per scoop protocol. I keep carbonated water, crystal light (it’s bad), ice water, boiling water around me always.
I am now as we speak burning off the fat layer that I am left with post Carnivore diet. Studies show that fat is more evenly dispersed around the entire body. I just recently completed an 18 fast (yesterday in fact). I have consumed 1 pound of 99% Fat Free Ground Turkey Breast and 1 scoop of protein powder. I am doing long cycles (as an example) because I just recently lost 55-60lbs in a 5 month span. My last official weigh in I was 177lbs. Today I weighed 184lbs post carbohydrate load. I have used the bathroom 8 times today. This just showed you as an example of how being in optimal health as anything maintain and progressed optimally is truly a reflection of a greater response-ability.
I should weigh in at 179lbs tomorrow. After the second day of no protein you can expect to lose 50% of you stored glycogen. There is a great deal of water lost that accompanies glycogen stores. It is highly debated on the internet as to what average glycogen stores might be but I would estimate that a person with low muscle mass may have 3.5lbs of water and glycogen stored on liver, blood and muscle tissue while some may be double this amount? Thus a median estimation of 5lbs may be a beneficial general application.
Walking assists with the glycogen loss when depleting but can often times bring it on too quickly. It is suggested to ease into walking and not jump into overly strenuous activity. This is more so a long game (depletion fasting).
I have many suggestions for this mode. Tolerating and enduring it is a beast. At one point I was walking 20-25 miles per day I think I did 30 several times. I would fast and walk. Your never closer to the truth or a spiritual religious ritualistic expression in experience that this.
I’d walk late into the night limping along with blisters but pressing on. I’d wake up early in the morning and walk far enough that I had no choice but to then walk back.
I feel that if you stay consistent and do at least 25-30 weeks observing this nutrition plan great things can come about.
I don’t recommend anything extreme however the state of mind one goes into upon the flooding in and and saturation of amino acid potentials while engaging in strenuous moderate exercise (long bouts) and intense liquid protein and water fasts become a key (I believe) to true epigenetic potential.
Thank you!
